This Custom Shop ’64 P-Bass comes from Fender's Journeyman Relic series. Featuring a beautiful finish that mimics the wear and tear of a well looked after guitar that’s seen its fair share of stages and passed hands on several occassions.
Beneath this stunning aesthetic lies a solid alder body, delivering balanced, resonant tones with plenty of clarity and midrange bite. Alder is the ideal tonewood for versatile musicians, producing a balanced response and plenty of sustain to accommodate a wide variety of playing styles.
The body's high-end is bright and sizzling, while its low-end offers a beautifully rounded character. Its midrange is beefy and features a slight amount of definition - perfect for rock and blues.
You will find bright characteristics and a tightened tone with its maple neck. Delivering plenty of cut and an enhanced high end. Its 60s oval ''C'' profile is designed with comfort in mind, providing a natural feel and a smooth performance.
A rosewood fingerboard is added to enhance the tone's low-end, adding extra warmth and softness which 'furs up' the maple's harsh edges. This allows the highs to sizzle and creates an open midrange attack. Rosewood features a naturally oily surface, allowing any stray overtones to be absorbed into the pours and produce a natural fundamental tone.
To deliver a truly classical Fender tone and performance, the 64 Journeyman Relic P-Bass is equipped with a single custom shop 59-62 P-Bass relic pickup. Constructed using the same materials and techniques as the original pickups from the 50s and 60s, this pickup provides you with a faithful reproduction of a vintage P-Bass' sound.
Its warm, vintage tones and even string response is perfect for both fingerpicking and slap playing styles, while its wide dynamic range suits a variety of music genres. The booming low-end is complemented by the punchy mids and clean highs, providing you with a strong tone in any setting.
The additional bone nut not only adds to the Fender P-Bass’ stunning looks, it also enhances the tone's natural resonance and sustain. Bone is the perfect material for guitar nuts, featuring a long life and helping the overall tone remain balanced. This type of nut naturally self-lubricates, helping the guitar stay in tune for longer when compared to modern materials.
The Time Machine series is Fender's own shrine to the heritage and legacy of the pioneers who made the company what it is today. Each guitar from this series is artfully crafted meticulously using the same techniques and tooling used to create the originals all those years ago.
The Custom Shop's selection of premium ''relic'' finishes been designed to replicate the worn-in vibe of a genuine vintage instrument. The Journeyman Relic finish delivers a used but not abused aesthetic, replicating the look of a guitar that has been played throughout the years while being well taken care of.
