So, what exactly makes TransTube® circuitry so great? Well, Peavey were the early ambassadors of transistor technology in amps. With the development of TransTube®, Peavey tried to solve the sterile nature of solid state amps, and with this they've really focused on that old issue. Things like the sound of the transformer, and asymmetrical clipping amongst a myriad of other factors always made modelling tube saturation so difficult. Peavey have worked tirelessly on this since its first incarnation in the ‘90s.
To push the point home, Peavey held an experiment and successfully fooled a group of professional musicians in a double-blind test. The experiment used the Peavey transistor amp which had to be identified amongst famous and boutique amps. But no one could - an absolute victory for Peavey and solid-state tech technology.
Have you ever had your amp blow on-stage? Peavey address this with their DDT™ tech. This prevents the amp from clipping by engaging a compressor, and if the amp is being pushed harder than it should be, it will power down. This is a great feature that gives you peace of mind when you're playing a show. You can play freely, safe in the knowledge that your amp can and will survive a long stretch of gigs.
Peavey have included a simple but comprehensive EQ section. You get a standard array of controls (bass, middle, and treble) which all have a variable operation of +/-15dB. Punch, mid-shift, contour, and bright buttons engage different voicing options. The punch switch throws an extra 6dB at 100hz, emphasising bass presence and weight. The mid shift changes the frequency of which the ‘middle’ knob controls. Engaged, you alter 250hz, left out you alter 600hz.
There's loads more. The contour control allows you to get those ‘scooped’ tones by increasing the bottom and top end of the frequency spectrum. The bright switch adds a 10dB high shelf at 1KHz which will add a lot of attack and definition to your sound – a useful set of features if you find yourself a little lost in the mix.
The Kosmos-C switch generates sub bass an octave below your note and blends it with your clean signal, giving a huge, impactful tone that will give depth to your sound. Yet another innovative feature – a testament to Peavey’s decades of research. This is technology that's had painstaking care and attention applied to every stage of its creation.
All these amazing features mean nothing if you're not in-tune…and you will be. Featuring a built-in chromatic tuner that does what it says: it's a chromatic tuner and it's built-in. So staying pitch perfect is easy. Ideal for tuning up on the fly.
A handy 1/8” jack out allows you to put some headphones on and play at whatever ungodly hour you'd like to. There's also an auxiliary in, so you can play along to your favourite songs whether you're in your bedroom, on the road, or just when you need it to be quiet.
