The Yamaha YAS 280S alto saxophone includes a number of improvements from previous already great models. The neck receiver on the body of the saxophone has been improved to be more rigid and is firmly set in place with a durable tightening screw. On the base of the instrument, the low B-C# mechanism has been modified to ensure full and consistent closure of the pads. This prevents leaking and thus gives a much more confident sound in lower register of the instrument.

This Yamaha sets the level for student instruments. A rugged construction makes it more durable when in use with younger players through the use of improved connections and braces. An adjustable thumb-rest ensures that even small hands are able to reach all the notes without unnecessary stretching, which proves tiresome after long periods of playing.
