While the Zildjian brand was founded over 300 years prior, Armand Zildjian's vast contributions to the modern cymbals we know and love today simply cannot be overstated. Throughout the 20th century, Armand revolutionised the cymbal manufacturing process, coaxing new and exciting sounds out of these age-old instruments with fresh lathing and hammering methods, among others. Embracing modern technology and bringing the Zildjian brand into the 21st century. Aside from manufacturing, Armand's real calling was his collaborations with the great drummers of the day, bringing their sounds to life and cementing their legacies as some of the greatest players we've ever seen. About Zildjian
Living history. Officially titled 'The Avedis Zildjian Company', the company known worldwide as Zildjian first began manufacturing cymbals as early as 1618 in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul, Turkey). One of the longest-running musical instrument manufacturers in the world, its founder, the Armenian Avedis Zildjian, initially constructed resonant metal sheets for the court of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
The company was passed down from generation to generation - always refining and reinventing the cymbal as it went - and eventually, in 1929, Avedis Zildjian III, who was living in the USA, formed Avedis Zildjian Co. with his brother and uncle in Quincy, Massachusetts. Through its close working relationship with the foremost drummers of every era, Zildjian has remained at the cutting edge of cymbal-making for more than 400 years, and shows no signs of stopping soon.
