Well, not quite as light. But it's certainly far lighter than traditional amp heads! Equipped with a sturdy handle and included gig bag, this is not going to sit gathering dust in your rehearsal room, far from it. When you're not burdened by cumbersome gear, it's so much easier to get your sound to the studio, band practice or to a gig. And the best part? There's zero compromise on sound thanks to its valve construction.
Made for the metalhead. Boasting four cascading stages, there's a huge amount of gain reserves in the Dark Terror. No matter how hungry for gain you are, this amp can create deluges of distortion. That's because it's based on the gain-structures of the flagship "Dual Dark" and "Rockerverb" amps, so you're getting that full bodied, maximum clarity sound in a far smaller shape. This stunning articulation is still present even when the gain is cranked, so you can go full-throttle on your tone without losing definition.
Dialling in a tone couldn't be easier. With a choice of output power, volume and gain controls, it's simple to get your base sound. Through these settings you can roll in everything from a light, gritty crunch through to full-blown saturation, or even ease off the gain for some sparkling cleans.
But there's another control, the "Shape" dial. It gets a little bit more interesting by offering you another tool to fine-tune your tone. This knob adjusts the midrange voicing by either boosting or cutting its presence. At the low end (anticlockwise) it gives you a powerful mid-bump, but go the other way (clockwise) and you'll reveal that classic mid-scooped metal sound. On this setting, mids are cut, but the treble and bass are boosted for some hard-hitting sonics.
Get your sound, the way you like it. Complete with an FX loop, the Dark Terror gets the most out of your pedals. That's thanks to its transparent, all-valve design that ensures an organic, pure signal path, so no matter how many stompboxes you hook up, you'll enjoy a precise, clear reproduction through the amp.
