The Fender Mustang was originally created in the '60s as a student instrument due to its shorter (24'') scale length, which provides a smaller distance between the frets and a "slinkier" string feel for easier bends and vibrato. The Mustang found popularity several decades later with rock and indie players, and today the Squier Bullet Mustang gives many more players access to the Mustang's unique aesthetics and easy playability for both students and professionals alike.
The 24'' scale length gives a huge influence over the playing feel of the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang. Fret spacing is closer, making every aspect of left-hand fingering easier from chords to solo work. The shorter string length also makes string bends easier, perfect for players trying out new soloing techniques. The Classic Vibe 60s Mustang features modern neck specifications, including a very-flat 9.5'' fingerboard radius, thin "C"-shape profile, and a gloss urethane finish. This makes it an easy to play instrument that all musicians will appreciate during long playing sessions, gigs and recordings.
The Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang is loaded with two of Duncan Designed pickups, including the MU-102B bridge-position single coil and a MU-102N neck position single coil. This is an incredibly versatile combination, especially when wired to a phase switch for each pickup. The SS configuration lets you select biting bridge-position tones, warm and mellow neck-position sounds, and all manner of 'inbetween' tones that you'll instantly recognize from countless recordings. The 2-pickup SS design is particularly popular with session players and those who like to play in many different genres and explore different sounds. From powerful rock tones through to mellow jazz and blues, onto funk and country tones; the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang can do it all and much more.
The original Mustang was created as part of a revamp of Fender's student models during the 1960s, where the shorter scale-length and more manageable body proportions helped younger players approach the guitar. In the '90s the Mustang gained cult popularity with rock and indie musicians; today it is one of the most collectable of all the Fender short-scale instruments. The Mustang has a unique aesthetic and playing feel, making it popular with rock and grunge players. The guitar was discontinued in 1982 but Fender subsequently released signature models and reissues due to its enduring popularity.
