A renaissance synthesizer
Based upon a rare Italian synthesizer produced in the early '80s, Elka-X is powered by the signature Cherry Audio modelling techniques to create a replica. Originally designed by Elka, the Synthex is a highly powerful synthesizer that offers unique tones to many other synths from that era and now the Elka-X allowers users of all abilities to explore this piece of music history in your DAW.
Standing out from the crowd of the time, the Synthex combined an array of uncommon and forward-thinking features. A highly-stable digitally-controlled analog oscillator and powerful multi-mode filter powered by the CEM3320 chips, a wide range of tonal exploration was possible. The multi-timbral nature offered the ability to perform two patches simultaneously, this innovative feature has become a staple in modern digital synthesizers and has of course been implemented into the Elka-X.
Used by some legends of the industry including none other than Stevie Wonder on his track "Skeletons" from the 1987 album Characters and Geoff Downes as part of the group Asia with none other than Keith Emerson, Nick Rhodes and Peter Howell. Perhaps most famously, the Elka made its way into the hands of Jean-Michel Jarre and can be heard extensively across the album Rendezvous.
Enhanced for modern producers
Vintage synthesizers charm us with their beautiful sound and character but can often fall flat when compared to the functionality of modern synthesizers. Because of this, Cherry Audio have expertly modelled the original synthesizer to preserve the tone and character whilst expanding on the features for enhanced possibilities for modern composers and mixing engineers. Preserving everything from the original DCOs, dynamic multi-mode filter and comprehensive FX section, the Elka-X is the most accurate Synthex model available.
Keeping the soul of the hardware original alive, Cherry Audio's Elka-X maintains all of the sound-sculpting possibilities such as the layering and keyboard splitting to feel familiar to users of the original. Building the ultimate synthesizer for modern musicians meant hugely improving the original's clunky step-sequence, increasing polyphony including mono and unison modes, adding velocity response and even expanding the functionality of the filter and LFO modulation sources. As well as building on what was already there, new additions have been included to offer more versatility including the addition of an arpeggiator with independent assignments for both layers.
Controlling most aspects of your synth has never been easier than with the unique Panel Controls, ensuring you can exchange settings between layers, sequencer tracks and presets seamlessly. It's not just the control or the basic synthesizer functions that have been improved but also the FX section. Perfecting your tone, adding ambience and stereo excitement is afforded with the inclusion of studio-quality echo, delay and Cherry Audio's Galactic reverb algorithm. For beginners or less experienced sound designers, a wealth of 500 professionally-made presets offers the chance to dive into immaculate, production-ready sounds instantly without the learning curve.
