Go2’s X-factor upgrade sends producers back to the drawing board with a wealth of updated sound possibilities. Adhering to the performance and features of the previous Go2 release, Go2-X features several new additions, including an animated, updated interface and further effects experimentation with simultaneous stereo delay and reverb. Custom waveform drawing, in tandem with Go2-X’s morphing oscillator, provides a slew of new tonal prospects, further extended by Go2-X’s built-in Symmetry Modulation and 16-step arpeggiator engine. Further equipped with Rob Papen’s proprietary Magic Mode, a new pack of factory presets, and more, Go2-X is a long-awaited upgrade that pays its predecessor with more than enough respect.
Where other synths in the Rob Papen line focus on different types of synthesis and different styles, there was yet to be a synth that encompassed everything you would need in virtually any production. This fed the seed that started Go2-X. By no means a basic synthesizer, Go2-X places all the controls in a single window with no difficult-to-navigate pop-ups, submenus or menu diving. No expense has been spared for the sake of simplicity and instead, you are treated to an intuitive interface with all parts of your signal chain visually represented in stunning clarity. At the heart of Go2 is the oscillator XY section, offering you the ability to blend between two waveforms, morphing them in a number of different ways to create a unique sound for your productions. With Go2-X, you can now even draw in custom waveforms or choose from the 128 different analog, additive, spectral and noise options. Comprised of a variety of different tonal shaping options for each waveform, Go2-X employs a sub-oscillator with Spread functionality, effectively turning your single oscillator into a two-oscillator tone generator.
Creative sound designers for film and composition will be able to flex their creative muscles with Go2-X. The mixing and morphing between the waveforms invites you to experiment with modulation sources for truly out-of-this-world tones. Taking inspiration from several Rob Papen flagship synthesizers, Go2-X comprises the world-famous XY pad. Not stopping there, the XY pad brings several parameters for complete tonal shaping including XY Mod Depth, several looping modes, Space and Time constraints and a manual Points control for added variety.
A staple in any synthesizer is the filter circuit. The signature sound of analog filters is one that is so vital to the accuracy and flexibility of the synth. Thankfully, Rob Papen Go2-X uses immaculately-modelled analog filters to give you complete control over your sound design. With two filters onboard, the first being a resonant multi-mode filter and the second being a 12dB/Oct high-pass, you can tailor your sound to fit your mix or use them to tremendous creative effect. Velocity, Keytracking and Mod Wheel ADSR envelope are linked to the main filter, offering the ability to be reversed for negative modulation with the press of one button.
Not content with providing you with a palette of tonal variety, the Go2-X lives up to the name by including a 16-step arpeggiator. Inside a single plug-in, you are provided with all the tools for expressive and creative sound design for both the big screen and music productions. Ideal for live performers, the arpeggiator within Go2 can be used for rhythmic effects as well as pitched effects through the use of Tune, Tie, Velocity, Unison and Free modulation settings per step. Additional playback options add versatility to your steps with the inclusion of Slide and Swing and several playback speeds.
Perfect for creating the rhythmic bedrock of your tune or for creating melodic sequences, the arpeggiator within Go2-X is simple to use and consists of a slew of controls that give you full control over each step.
